The Effect of Thoracotomy on Pao2 in the Postoperative Period

Abstract
In 24 patients without known cardiorespiratory impairment who received thoracotomy and anterior fusion under nitrous oxide-oxygen-pancuronium, arterial oxygen tension was measured 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, 5 days, 6 days, and 7 days respectively after operation. It has been observed that significant decrease in arterial oxygen tension lasts for 3 days, begins to improve toward normal on the 4th day on, but does not completely return to normal even until the 7th day after thoracotomy.
